Income Thresholds for SUSI

Income Thresholds for SUSI

To determine eligibility for a SUSI (Student Universal Support Ireland) grant, your household's reckonable income and family circumstances are key factors. Here's a simplified overview:
1. Income Thresholds:
Your household's total gross income from the previous tax year is assessed against specific thresholds. These thresholds vary based on the number of dependent children in your family:
  • No dependent children: €55,924
  • 1 dependent child: €56,809
  • 2 dependent children: €57,694
  • 3 dependent children: €58,579
  • 4 dependent children: €59,464
  • 5 dependent children: €60,349
  • 6 dependent children: €61,234
  • 7 dependent children: €62,119
Note: For families with more than seven dependent children, an additional €885 is added for each extra child.
2. Family Circumstances:
  • Dependent Students: If you're under 23 on 1 January of the year of entry to the course, you're considered dependent. Your parents' or legal guardians' income is included in the assessment.
  • Mature Dependent Students: If you're 23 or over and living with your parents, you're considered a mature dependent student. Your income and your parents' income are assessed.
  • Independent Mature Students: If you're 23 or over and living independently from your parents from 1 October of the year prior to your course start date, only your income (and that of your spouse or partner, if applicable) is assessed.
  • Separated or Divorced Parents: If your parents are separated or divorced, only the income of the parent you live with is considered.
  • Orphans: If you're an orphan, only your personal income is assessed.
